UNITED STATES EYEING WORLD CUP REDEMPTION

 

The United States were left stunned after they failed to qualify for the last FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia and they have the chance to atone for that major failure ahead of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers in the CONCACAF section. The United States failed to qualify for Russia 2018 after finishing in fifth spot at the end of proceedings in the fifth and final round of qualifiers from the CONCACAF section. The United States team finished above the Trinidad and Tobago only on the six-team table. Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama finished in the first, second and third positions respectively to secure automatic promotion to the tournament in Russia, while Honduras in fourth place qualified for the inter-confederation playoffs.


Honduras lost to Australia over two legs in the inter-confederation section of the qualifiers as they failed to make it to the tournament on Russian soil.

QATAR TO PLAY WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS

 

FIFA World Cup 2022 hosts Qatar have been scheduled to join the European section of the qualifiers as they prepare for the tournament billed to take place at the end of 2022. World Cup 2022 in Qatar is edition number 22 in the history of the tournament dating back to the first edition in Uruguay. World Cup 2022 will start on November 21, 2022 and end on December 18, 2022.


It was revealed earlier this month that Qatar would be joining the European section of the qualifiers on the invitation of UEFA. To this effect, Qatar will join the Republic of Ireland and European champions Portugal in Group A. The other teams in the group are Luxembourg, Serbia and Azerbaijan. The 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts will play ten friendlies in this group to further prepare the Asians for the tournament on home soil. Qatar will face the Republic of Ireland on March 30 and October 12. How Qatar Gained Rights to World Cup 2022?

 

With the World Cup 2022 coming up and being the first to be held in a Middle East country, there have been several questions raised as to how Qatar came to win the rights for this world event. The decision was finalized several years ago as is customary. Today the preparations go on but if we go back to how the selection process came about, it is probably the financial and economic power of the country that helped it win the right to host the event.

It is a wonder since it is probably the smallest country to host such an event. Qatar’s whole area is 12000 square kilometers which makes it twice the size of one of the smallest sovereign states, Delaware. Qatar overcomes its physical size with richness. Forbes studies reveal that GDP per capita for this Gulf nation is higher than in any other country. Doha skyline would seem to be a scene out of The Jetsons.

DORTMUND ADMIT STAR DUO COULD LEAVE

 

According to reports from Germany, Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre has revealed that highly rated duo Jadon Sancho and Achraf Hakimi could both leave Borussia Dortmund when the transfer window opens.


Hakimi and Sancho have been two of Dortmund’s best performers during the 2019/20 season. They have combined to great effect. On loan Real Madrid defender Hakimi has registered a very impressive five goals and ten assists this season while operating predominantly from the right back.

BARCA TO GO ALL OUT FOR TIMO WERNER

Barcelona are looking forward to signing RB Leipzig striker, Timo Werner. The Blaugrana have identified the German international as the ideal solution to their striking problem. He is also considered as a perfect supporting cast to Lionel Messi in attack.


Barca brought in Antoine Griezmann last summer from Atletico Madrid in a Big money move. He has scored 14 goals in all competitions for Barca. According to reports Barcelona will listen to offers for the player in the summer. Premier league giants, Chelsea and Manchester United have indicated an interest in the player.
